What to Remember

Describe this distribution

Say where the data cluster, which interval is tallest, or what is typical.

Use the group that was measured. Do not switch to a different group.

A tie is not one peak

Call a bar the tallest only when it is the unique tallest.

If two bars have the same height, do not call one of them the only peak.

Do not invent a cause

A tall bar says where the counts are. It does not say why.

Traffic, weather, practice, and food can be guesses. The histogram does not prove them.

Level 1

Easy

True or false. A tie is not a single tallest bar.

Example

These are 15 bus rides to one school.

True or false: The tallest bar is 6 to 10.

Call a bar the tallest only when its count is greater than every other bar.

The bar for 6 to 10 has height 6.

Every other bar is shorter.

The statement is true.

Answer: True. 6 to 10 is the only tallest bar, with 6.
