7th Grade Math · Unit 4
Write an equation for the situation, then solve it.
Name the parts
The constant is the starting amount. The coefficient is the rate. The other side is the total.
The variable counts how many times the rate is used.
Read an equation as a situation
You can write a situation from an equation by naming what the number next to the variable counts.
In 2n + 10 = 24, the 2 counts each extra item, 10 is the start, and 24 is the total.
Solve in the same order
Undo the starting amount first. Then undo the rate.
The solution tells how many times the rate was used.
A cost starts with a fee, then adds the same amount each time.
